Day 10 Sept 17 Escalante Grand Staircase to Bryce Canyon NP

Chili morning 45 degrees for our walk.  We had a doggie encounter. I was just walking and felt Braun pull a little and I looked back and they was a black dog. He and Braun sniffed butts and we walked along together till he turned off to a house.

Today we are climbing the Escalante Staircase. We moved from desert to pine forest. It's 55 degrees. I tried to find a mechanic to let some oil out of our van but nothing available till Monday. We crossed the summit at 9600 ft.
We are driving on a skinny road would deep canyons on both sides. Some of the descent was as much as 14%. The Escalante River has some water in it and a green zone beside it.  We found out the staircase refers to the multiple layers of colors in the rocks. And most of the color is related to the amount of iron oxide that's in the sample. The white ones have just had all of the iron leached out of them.
We drove on to Bryce canyon and went into the visitor center and try to drive through the park this is another park that has a shuttle bus system. So tomorrow's plan is to actually take the shuttle bus to see the places it takes you and then come back and ride our bikes on the lovely bike path they have.
